23 May Brow Lift vs. Forehead Lift
Are you a good candidate for a brow lift or a forehead lift, and what’s the difference between the two? These procedures are a specialty of Dr. Schiedler’s at Oasis Eye Face and Skin, and although it may sound like they’re the same thing, there are some differences.
A brow lift surgery lifts the eyebrows and forehead. However, there are two approaches to this procedure. One is the traditional brow lift, sometimes called an endobrow lift or “forehead lift,” while the other is a limited incision brow lift or simply “brow lift.” There are also techniques such as a direct or mid-forehead lift, but these procedures are much less common.
Both brow lifts and forehead lifts are outpatient surgeries which require sedation or anesthesia.
Traditional Brow Lift
A traditional brow lift often requires an incision at the hairline or hidden within the hairline. This makes the resulting scar difficult to spot as it blends with the patient’s hair. A small amount of skin is removed in order to achieve the lift. Traditional brow lifts offer ample surgical control and significant results. However, bear in mind that shaving part of the hair may be required, but the full aspects of the procedure will be discussed during your consultation.
Forehead Lift
This approach is newer and less invasive. Small incisions are discretely hidden within the hair area, and shaving is rarely required. Only the most highly trained surgeons are qualified and capable of performing this surgery, which boasts a shorter operation time and even quicker recovery than a traditional brow lift.
Insurance may cover these procedures following an in-office visual field test to confirm if there’s any amount of visual blockage. When vision is affected, there is the possibility that insurance may cover all or part of your procedure. Photographs taken at your surgeon’s office can help create a case for a forehead lift being medically necessary.
